You only have a couple of weeks – or days – to the left to find the joy in the fall foliage. While you may be witness in his own neighborhood, or perhaps even have led somewhere near home to see in all its glory, I can almost guarantee you have no intention of doing so, unless you visit Vermont.
Weekends I traveled there a couple back when I took my daughters school shopping throughout New England. As if the trees in the unit throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts were breathtakingly beautiful enough, with its bright gold and burnished reds, almost left me short of breath, a Once you crossed the line in Vermont.
I can not say I've traveled a lot in Vermont reality. A couple of ski trips in winter there were wonderful in campyness a ski resort and exhilaratingly clear air (not to mention competition pistes.) But the fall in Vermont? Oh my God.
Tourists come from all over the country and indeed around the world to visit Vermont in the fall. I read about this for years, of course. Always wanted to see if it is what is cracked up to be.
This is. Trust me. Go see for yourself. This is what we did:
Burlington. We visited UVM, or Universitas Virdis Montis, the University of the Green Mountains. In contrast to the backdrop of Lake Champlain between the Adirondack and Green Mountains, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in the University in the country. Walk Church Street and take a look at the fashion boutiques, high end of April Cornell candy shop (try the homemade dark chocolate bark studded with almonds!) and full-of-big-is sending women store. I picked up a Ralph Lauren sweater cotton cable in the United States Naval Academy yellow for fall football game humor. It was a real steal! Eating Out in Leunig's Bistro (115 Church Street). French Bistro food with inspiring and authentic charm. We had a perfect dining experience during the night, our one in Burlington, and my daughter and I created a permanent memory there. A fabulous retreat.
Middlebury. Home of nationally-ranked liberal arts from Middlebury College, This small town is as picturesque as they come, will be established immediately after the end of the Revolutionary War. Downtown streets are lined with expensive boutiques and coffee shops that are within a short walking distance to fabulous Middlebury Inn. If you get the opportunity to travel to Vermont, please call ahead for a reservation and try to stay at the inn. Otherwise, you'll be forced to stay at a bed and breakfast (there are plenty) or the unit, as we did, in the middle of the night in search of the last remaining room in a radius of five hundred kilometers from the city.
Killington. We just spent the night here Summit Lodge, a mountain retreat to the view that it was the prettiest for sore eyes could recall in recent memory. Having booked a room B & B in twenty minutes outside of Middlebury College, just to get to an empty house in the middle of nowhere (which would be the case that the name comes from Middlebury) without locks on the doors of the room, no locks on the door and no one person or a dog before it (leaving my sixteen year-old daughter, who had seen so many movies too many horror in his life a little less afraid of his mind at the thought of spending the night there). Our night at the lodge in Killington worked very well. Dated but charming its simplicity and full roaming Campy Bernese mountain dogs, the beds are warm, and hot food is homemade and of his, in a well located in the green state.
Woodstock. Conduction of Killington to Boston to continue our college tour schedule, we, unexpectedly, through Woodstock. My daughter had just fallen asleep, but if it had been otherwise, I would have nailed in the ribs with his elbow and made her get up and walk around the city with me. It was as good as Vermont. The Woodstock Inn is the perfect picture with white fence and colonial architecture symmetrical. If I had been better prepared, I would reserved a room here and spent the weekend walking around the city. My jaw fell open as I passed through its few narrow streets. Perfect shops and homes line streets perfect perfect. If most of Vermont seems too "Vermonty" then this city is for you. Plan a visit here for next year, I'll reserve my room this week to '09. That was full of tourists before 9:30 Sunday morning, before anything, even opened.
Quechee. The house of Simon Pearce glassware in the historic mill. Their own destinies. Travel to Vermont just to visit the restaurant and shop. Watch a potter at his wheel, take videos of the water wheel and dine at the renowned restaurant. Not far from Woodstock and one that will be remembered for years to come! Simon's hand blown glass has been on my radar for over twenty years and I'm still kicking myself that I did not start collecting on Back then when I had the opportunity to buy wholesale. I can not touch it now (except the "second" battery.) Fabulous wedding gift registry business and downtown too.
If October is one of his favorite months because it is mine, enjoy the way the earth is laughing out loud during the next few days that lie ahead. And if they are lucky enough to afford the time away, makes it an escape to Vermont. It is one of creating true masterpieces.
