The Sumerians were people who lived in southern Mesopotamia around 3500 BC to 1800 BC. Twelve states had formed the city, the most famous of Ur and Sumer. A common language is called Sumer was followed throughout these cities. Although no modern descendants of the Sumerians, the life of the Sumerian culture, mainly due to their inventions. The Sumerians formed the first human settlement to end the nomadic ways of ancient man. They were a farming culture and raised crops in three areas. Among the cities that remain highly cultivated gardens, while the cultivation of crops and other food sources derived from agricultural fields outside of the city. The third region was far from water, mainly for grazing of domestic animals, hunting and gathering fuel. Salt and stagnant water of the canals were used for the cultivation of high nutritional value date-palms. For the purpose of agriculture, the Sumerians requires irrigation. Thus prepared development of canals and levees to control flooding of the river Euphrates. The large-scale cooperation was needed to keep construction of irrigation canals continuous repair them and, finally, to address the concerns and allocate water shares. The temples were not only religious shrines, but the Sumerian culture and all its people depended on them for everyday life. The temple complex had quarters for the priest, officers, accountants, singers and musicians. He also served as a treasure for the city and a deposit of grains, tools and weapons. Workshops for professions were from the mainstream of the Sumerian culture were in the temple complex as well. These include bakers, potters, jewelers, furriers and spinners and weavers. Sheep and goats for sacrifice to the gods of the temple were also kept inside the complex.
Sheep, goats, cows, donkeys and dogs had been domesticated although the horses and camels were still unknown. The Sumerian culture has been responsible for several inventions as they advanced as a race. Plowing for agriculture, the wheel negotiation for trucks, sailboats to move bulky goods to the river and above all, writing was invented to facilitate the work of remembering the details trade.
